The original Pinehurst neighborhoods were developed and named by unit number (for instance, Unit One) instead of individual neighborhood names. When you look at a map of Pinehurst, you'll see that the streets are all winding and curving. There are several reasons for this. The most important reason is that the neighborhoods are built around golf courses. The second is that the neighborhoods were deliberately laid out this way to slow traffic. There are no shortcuts through most Pinehurst neighborhoods. This tends to make the neighborhoods harder to navigate for newcomers but much more pleasant for the homeowners!
The "crown jewel", Unit 2 is the essence of the Village of Pinehurst. Historic and other properties surround a small core business district and the Village Green. Tree-lined streets meander through James Tuft's vision of a New England town in the North Carolina Sandhills. A magical place for many, homes in Old Town fall in a wide price range. Adjacent to the Village Center homes are priced in the $750H - 1.5M range.
