Carthage has been the county seat of Moore County since 1784. In 1850 the Tyson and Jones Buggy factory was established and it later became the manufacturer of the 'Cadillac' of the horse-drawn buggy. The factory brought prosperity to the area that is reflected in many of the architectural treasures of the town. The National Historic District of Carthage gleams with over 50 buildings and residences. The Carthage community is centrally located in Moore County, close to many other towns and attractions. Carthage exhibits the mixture of terrain and community that makes Moore County so rich.
